Thank you to all who submitted abstracts! We had a total of 785 Research Abstracts, 459 Program Abstracts, and 110 Preformed Panels submitted from over 22 countries. We are now about to begin the review process.

Additional Scholarships
The Maternal Health Task Force (MHTF) from the Women and Health Initiative of Harvard School of Public Health is pleased to announce scholarships for developing country nationals studying or working in maternal health to attend
the 2013 International Conference on Family Planning. Applicants must have an abstract accepted related to maternal health and be studying or working in a public or private academic institution/facility, or with a local non-governmental organization.  Individuals working for large international NGOs are not eligible to apply.  For more information on this scholarship please download instructions and visit the Maternal Health Task Force website. The Third International Conference on Family Planning will be held from November 12 -15, 2013, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at the African Union Conference Center. Hosted by the Federal Ministry of Health of Ethiopia and the Bill and Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.  Since the first conference in 2009, family planning has gained global momentum as a prominent public health issue. The conference will provide a platform to highlight successes that have been achieved in family planning around the world and address remaining hurdles.
Abstracts will be accepted through May 1, 2013.

National Steering Committee Launch Press Conference

The National Steering Committee for the 2013 conference was officially launched on February 1, 2013 at the Addis Ababa Hilton. The launch had over 70 people in attendance and was covered by several Ethiopian media outlets. The National Steering Committee is comprised of Ethiopian government organizations, donor groups, UN agencies, civil society organizations and the private sector. They will assist the Ethiopian Federal Ministry of Health with in country preparations for the conference in November.

Call for Abstracts

The Conference organizers invite abstracts on cutting edge research and program results directed at enabling individuals in the world, especially in low-income areas, to achieve their contraceptive and reproductive intentions.  Of particular interest are abstracts on research demonstrating how family planning benefits and advances the health and wealth of people and nations and on high impact or best practices of family planning programs and service delivery models.  Abstracts using strong scientific/evaluation methods will be given priority in the review and acceptance process.

Preformed panels may be submitted for review.  These will include no more than four (4) abstracts, thematically integrated with each abstract based on work carried out by separate organizations.

Conference Dates Announced

The Federal Ministry of Health of Ethiopia and the Bill and Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health are jointly organizing the Third International Conference on Family Planning to be held in Addis Ababa, November 12-15, 2013.
